Very stirking pin, in part due to the lovely Celtic knot silverwork that frames the stone, but really what makes the brooch stand out is that amazing natural chrysocolla stone in the center. Chrysocolla has been used for jewelry since ancient times due to the vivid blue-green color, and there are various mines all over the world. We would presume this stone came from England, given the theme of the pin itself. Some chrysocolla is cyan in color, but this one is quite vivid green and not much blue in it. It's called a "stone of peacefulness," said to alleviate fear, guilt and nervous tension. It is thought to crystallize feelings of love, acceptance and tolerance. Chrysocolla is a considered a stone of Cancer and associated with the element of Water. Among those who work with gemstones for healing, chrysocolla is considered to be cleansing and to absorb negativity: "It can help flush and heal heart blocks, primarily working best Heart Chakra, although it can revitalize all of the chakras." We believe the pin was made around the turn of the century. It did test positive for sterling silver using the JSP acid test. When I tested it, some of the liquid dripped to the front, and so I had to do a light polish as the acid had cleared away a corner of tarnish. In cleaning it, I saw what looks like a maker's mark on one of the edges of the bezel. I can make out letters, I think I see an A and a J, but the piece has such hand patina--that is, a wearing down of the soft silver with age and touch--such that it is impossible for me to make out the letters, even with my jeweler's loupe. In any event, it is a very wonderfully made piece, you can see with the loupe the hand shaping of the silver, the filing of the edges--it's quite sculptural. And then that gorgeous stone. Truly an heirloom piece.
The pin measures a little over 1-5/8" wide by just under 1" tall. Weighs 15g, which is a nice size for a brooch. The pin does not pull all the way back, but the mechanism is in good working condition.

Yes, we can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment. We generally do 30-day plans of two payments, but for more expensive items we can do a 60- or 90-day plan. We follow the Etsy recommended approach of having you purchase an item using Other as a payment option, then invoicing you via PayPal per the payment schedule upon which we mutually agree.
Note that layaways past due over 30 days (with three reminders) go into default. Once in default the transaction is cancelled and layaway payments are not returnable due to having removed items from the market and losing potential sales.
