This vintage German silver and turquoise Navajo concho belt is long and large, with a wide supple black leather belt and eleven conchos and spacers, not including the buckle. The piece came from an antique shop in northern New Mexico that closed in the 1980s, and the belt is classic from that era. Artists often used German silver--which is a nickel alloy and contains no sterling silver content at all--to meet the demand for Native American and Southwestern jewelry and accessories in the 1970s. The silver was still great looking and the cost greatly reduced! That wide size of leather belt was especially popular in the 1970s through the 1980s, and the buckle and conchos are also a large size. Navajo women wore and still wear concho belts over velvet skirts and blouses, and men will wear them as well over shirts. In the Southwest today and in the past, a concho belt will often be worn to a semi-casual to dressy function, over a tunic style blouse and either tight denim jeans tucked into boots, or if dressier, a broomstick skirt or other mid-calf length skirt. Most concho belts that I've sold from this era are on the small size, but this one is an exception. The extra long length makes it suitable for men or women. If it's too long, the leather can be cut down and the conchos moved closer together.
The leather belt is 1-3/4" wide by 50" long from each end of the leather, tip to tip. Measuring from buckle to tip, it's closer to 52" total length. The buckle is big at 4" wide by 3" long. Each of the conchos is smaller, and the spacers even smaller. Weighs 364gm total weight. Belt Sizing rule of thumb: Since concho belts are generally worn low on the hips versus at the waist, take your hip size and add 4” to it. For example: 40 hips = 44" belt size. This leather belt is clearly made for a larger sized hip size, which again, is hard to find in a vintage concho belt. Traditional copper backs make it easy to slip on and off conchos.

• We ship within 1-3 days of order via USPS, Fed Ex, and UPS. and any order of $100 or more will be insured via third party insurance.
• Any package valued at $250 or more will require Signature upon delivery. Third Party insurer requires Signature in certain cases, so please do not ask that we ship without Signature as this creates a risk we are not willing to take.
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.
• If your item arrives damaged, photograph it with packaging so we may make a claim.
• Returning an item is no fun; contact us before buying to ask questions or request additional photos. I'd rather talk you out of something vs your being disappointed with a purchase!
