1967 Georg Jensen Mitra 43-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set for Ten in Original Case, Vintage Danish Cutlery, Vintage Wedding Gift Couple
This Georg Jensen stainless steel flatware set comes from the estate of a man who loved fine things in life. His surviving nephew said his uncle loved to entertain and had great taste. The serial number on the case tells us the set was made in 1967. It still has the original booklet that describes the Mitra setting. It was used and the stainless steel has wear consistent with use. But the owner was a natural caretaker, always storing the set, and it has been stored and unused for the past at least 20 years. Georg Jensen (1866-1935) requires little to no introduction, but for those who are only starting to collect his works, he was a Danish designer and silversmith, opening his workshop in 1904. From the Brittanica entry on him: "Jensen’s silverware achieved immediate popularity and commercial success. He was, in fact, the first silvermaker to realize a profit from the manufacture of modern silver. Until Jensen’s time virtually all successful silverware producers had relied on a standard repertory of popular traditional designs. Jensen, however, found that the market for his sleek, simple pieces was larger than anyone had predicted. His firm grew rapidly, expanding throughout Europe and opening branches in London and New York City. On both continents Jensen’s work set trends for contemporary tableware. He was among the first designers to fashion steel—formerly considered fit only for low-quality, inexpensive flatware—into handsome, serviceable cutlery." The company continued to produce after Jensen's death--for example, this cutlery set--first being run by Jensen's son, then in 1973 aquired by Royal Scandinavia Group. You can still purchase this pattern today brand new, although like most things made, vintage has a look and feel that is often much better than new.
The service is for ten. Each setting has one knife, one spoon, and two forks--so 4 pieces per person is 40 pieces. Plus the service includes one serving fork and two serving spoons--so 43 pieces altogether. All are intact. Some scratches from use but otherwise in good condition.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.
• If your item arrives damaged, photograph it with packaging so we may make a claim.
• Returning an item is no fun; contact us before buying to ask questions or request additional photos. I'd rather talk you out of something vs your being disappointed with a purchase!

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.
Note that layaways past due over 30 days go into default. Once in default the transaction is cancelled and layaway payments are not returnable due to having removed items from the market and losing potential sales.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market.
