This vintage folk art mask came from Indonesia and is "Godogan," the Frog Prince, which is about a young prince who the gods, who are mad and punishing the people by giving them a long drought, have turned into an ugly frog. He would never become a man again unless he could find a girl who truly loved him, which he eventually does, and he ends the drought by bringing rain. Has a hinged mouth that does not open too large on account of small leather straps on the interior keeping the mouth from falling open. There is a crack at the top of the mask, although it does not go all the way down. Likely from being dropped at some point. Also some areas where the paint has flaked off showing the white gesso below. Most of these spots have been painted over as a sort of repair. Based on the estate from which this comes, we estimate to be 1960s.
The mask measures about 9" tall by 7-3/4" across and 4" deep at the deepest point. Has original rubber and twine hanger on back. that would have been used to place around the head.

• We do ship worldwide. Click on the Shipping & Policies tab and enter your zip or postal code into the box to get the shipping cost.
• We generally ship your package 1-3 days after receiving payment, and we use USPS for all items. Occasionally, due to travel, we will take between 5-7 days to get your item to the post office. We will always let you know if that's the case, and you will always have the option to cancel if you need your item sooner.
• We insure items of $50 or more, and for any item costing over $200, we also add signature confirmation wherever it is available.
• Buy with confidence--we accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within three days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense, and the item must be returned in the same condition in which received.
• If your item arrives damaged, photograph it with packaging so we may make a claim. Etsy and PayPal require that the item be returned before we can issue a refund.
• Since returning an item is no fun, we encourage you to contact us before buying to ask questions or request additional photos. I'd rather talk you out of something vs your being disappointed with a purchase!
• Our top priority is your positive experience with this shop, and our greatest hope is that you LOVE the item purchased!
Yes, we can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment. We generally do 30-day plans of two payments, but for more expensive items we can do a 60- or 90-day plan. We follow the Etsy recommended approach of having you purchase an item using Other as a payment option, then invoicing you via PayPal per the payment schedule upon which we mutually agree.
Note that layaways past due over 30 days (with three reminders) go into default. Once in default the transaction is cancelled and layaway payments are not returnable due to having removed items from the market and losing potential sales.
