This late 1990s sterling silver and turquoise squash blossom necklace was made by Navajo Pansy Johnson, and the turquoise is of a color so beautiful, it will draw you in. The stones are mostly unblemished, although we see some gray to black veins and spots in a handful. The color is a blue-green that conjures descriptors like "pale teal," "blue jade," "deep robin's egg." The truth is, the color is impossible to describe--it has the unblemished smoothness of Sleeping Beauty and the teal color of an even more renowned mine. I've photographed it in various lights to show the nuance. The impact of the turquoise is amplified by Johnson's clean-line, high-density clusterwork, which gives her jewelry a tidy look and feel. This squash blossom, although it is the standard size for such necklaces, is a more compact size than the other two of hers I've sold. (And, I should note that all three have featured unblemished, subdued stones.) From a website about the Gallup-based silversmith: "She was born in the 1960's. She began to make traditional Navajo silver work at a very young age and she made her first paycheck from silversmithing while still in high school. In 1975, she learned how to silversmith when major fashion designers and celebrities began wearing turquoise and silver. The popularity of turquoise and silver in the 70's helped Pansy understand the nationwide demand for Native American jewelry. Her precision in setting mini-stones makes her work stand out as one of the best known Navajo cluster artists." Johnson's squash blossom necklaces don't come up often; her son Vernon Kee Johnson is carrying the torch of the family's jewelry making legacy. The elder Johnson's squash blossom necklaces fetch steep prices when they do come onto the market.
The necklace measures 26" end to end, and the naja measures about 2-3/4" wide by about 2-3/4" tall. Each of the ten clusters (turquoise only, not including the blossom) is about 1-1/8" wide by just over 5/8" tall. Two strands of silver beads moving into a single strand toward the top. This necklace is about 26" tip to tip, with a hang length of about 12-13". The sterling silver is brushed finish. All turquoise stones are well seated. Strung on silver foxtail wire. Total weight is 149g.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market. But even if you have some funds with which to make a down payment, we can do layaway with you.
