This vintage sterling silver and natural spiderweb turquoise cross is so showstopping, so amazing--it transcends the label "statement jewelry." If a statement calls attention, this one commands it. It is so big as a necklace that it could easily be repurposed as a piece of art. Couldn't you see it draped over a large saint or hung on a wall while not worn? Back in the day, it was not uncommon that a cross pendant on chain might be slipped over a heavy wooden bedpost or other piece of furniture--the intention being "bless this space." And it is more than just the size that makes the piece stand out. The turquoise is one of the most recognizable and collected--spiderweb Number 8 from the long-closed mine in Eureka County, Nevada. The previous owner, who inherited the cross from her parents, found that the heavy link chain shown in photos was the best approach to wearing the necklace, as it added strength and fit proportionately without adding a whole lot more actual weight. Plus, the cross has a shepherd's hook, which lends itself to being hooked onto a chain, and the chain has a hook closure that allows for different lengths by leaving a tail in the back. There is also something gothic about the cross that is reinforced with the chain versus a different type of necklace. The back carries a maker's mark that I've not been able to identify, although there are some Navajo artists with similarly stylized use of letters like this. There is no metal stamp but the piece and chain test positive for sterling using the JSP acid test.
The cross measures about 4" across by about 6" tall and alone weighs 109g. The link chain necklace is just under 25" long and weighs 61g. That is 170 total gram weight! You can take off the cross from the chain if you want to swap out pieces, but these were clearly meant for one another.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market.
