Vintage Navajo Fred Guerro Sr. Natural Green Turquoise Cuff Bracelet Approx Size 6+ w/ Tiny Gap

This vintage cuff bracelet is not just stand-out for that gorgeous natural green turquoise stone that, while you can't know this from photos, feels so smooth and soothing, like a worry stone--BUT it was also made by one of the true Navajo masters of silversmithing, Fred Guerro Sr. (1934-2020). The turquoise stone has veins of warm golden-brown matrix throughout, and I've included a photo of one section that looks like a crack but is a darker vein. The leaves on the sides are all handmade, as are the dot and other silver elements around the bezel. Leaves in Navajo jewelry were common in the 1960s and 70s. What I also would like to talk about the Guerro Sr., himself, who died at the age of 86; I'm sharing a passage from his obituary, as he was not just an award-winning silversmith but also a beloved father, uncle, grandfather: "Fred was born Nov. 14, 1934, to the late Juan and Yananpah Guerro. His clans are Chishi (Apache), born for ‘Áshiihí (Salt People Clan). He passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2020, in Albuquerque. Fred was the last of Juan and Yananpah Guerro’s children. He was known to be very kind, gentle, and always telling jokes and stories. Fred was a born-again Christian and never wavered in his faith. He always quoted bible scriptures and tested your biblical knowledge to ensure one learned. He loved his family very much that he would do anything and everything for them. Fred was a master silversmith, selling his jewelry nationwide and with his regular customers in Socorro, Alamogordo, and Gallup. He built houses, mostly out of adobe mud, a skill that is becoming very rare. Fred was also a skilled fence builder and travelled many miles to work for ranchers across the state. Many nephews and relatives who travelled with him to hunting and fence building remember his stories, his humor, and jokes. Fred was very hospitable by opening his home to many people who needed a place to stay, needed a place to rehabilitate, and/or just needed to get it together. He lived in Alamo most of his life, but also shortly in To’hajiilee, and Socorro. Many of Fred’s nieces loved him so much and remember him teasing them and always being a funny and loveable uncle. His love for the church and Christian belief was monumental. He leaves a great legacy and will be one to be truly missed by so many near and far." This cuff carries Guerro Sr.'s hallmark etched on the back. The previous owner purchased it in the 1960s.
The bracelet measures about 1-5/8" top to bottom at the stone setting, and taking a soft tape measure around the interior, it is about 5-3/8" with a just under 3/4" gap--so just under 6-1/8" total. A word on that gap--it is VERY small. The previous owner had tiny wrists and wore her bracelets daily, and so the gap was squeezed such that the cuff wouldn't roll or fall off. It will take a seasoned cuff wearer to know where to position the bracelet terminal (in the soft area between tendons on the underside of the wrist) in order to slip the bracelet onto the wrist. The next owner will need to have a small and flat wrist. Bracelet weighs 42g.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market. But even if you have some funds with which to make a down payment, we can do layaway with you. Just convo to say you'd like to do a layaway, and we'll work with you on that route instead of a Hold or Reserve.
