Here we have a signed Stephen Schlanser glass vase, heavy and medium-large in size, in a vase-with-base form for which the artist is known, although this is a rare one in that the sculpted base is a foamy, spiky-yet-soft texture, almost as if the top part of the vase is splashing down in water. From a website about the maker: "Stephen found his interest in glass while working as an apprentice for the renowned German glass artisan Paul von Domarus and later opened his own successful stained glass studio. He has since taken the glass medium into unexplored territories. In 1990 he presented his first collection of kiln-fired glass; the process by which plate glass is carefully shaped by heating it to near melting temperature, then gravitating from its solid state to form the shapes that the artist wants to create." The body of this vase is a beautiful color on the outside, what I might describe as teal or turquoise, with a milky swirling interior. That base is a subtle lavender-rose color with more clarity toward the section where it connects to the body. Especially on some earlier works, Schlanser's vases display bases in forms that conjure images of ice cubes, glaciers, or stacked glass. This is one of the few vases of his that is this colorful and this uncommon, although in the early 1990s he did a series of vases--I've found some titled "Riptide"--that had a similar foamy base, although less dynamic than the piece offered here. Signed on the bottom with the artist's last name, although I do not believe it is dated.

The vase measures just under 9" tall and the mouth about 4" in diameter. Weighs a substantial 2.5 pounds. Some scuffing along the base rim but otherwise in great vintage condition with no chips nor cracks.

    Returns & Refunds

    • We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

    • If your item arrives damaged, photograph it with packaging so we may make a claim.

    • Returning an item is no fun; contact us before buying to ask questions or request additional photos. I'd rather talk you out of something vs your being disappointed with a purchase!

    Do you do layaways?

    We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.

    We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market. But even if you have some funds with which to make a down payment, we can do layaway with you. Just convo to say you'd like to do a layaway, and we'll work with you on that route instead of a Hold or Reserve.

    Can you tell me SOLD prices?

    We get correspondance almost daily asking how much certain items are worth or what the price was of items that have sold, and we can no longer respond to these messages.
