This vintage ring is heavy and well made with Carico Lake turquoise laid in angular geometric shapes between slivers of sterling silver, all set in a smooth and deep bezel. There is much to love about the ring--the weight, quality, color, and style. The turquoise ranges in hues from more of an apple green in the corner to a chartreuse in the center, plus seafoam green and pale celery tones. All of these shades are characteristic of Carico Lake turquoise, the green coming from zinc content in the mine, which is named for its home on a dried-up lakebed in Lander County, Nevada. Due to its remote location and harsh conditions in the winter, there is a limited amount of time allowed to mine the turquoise. The turquoise is, hence, quite rare and these green tones especially collectible. The other thing that stands out in the ring is the simplicity of the setting, which is a flush channel inlay. Perhaps it is the depth of that bezel and its shape, combined with the special turquoise cut and laid between the silver channels, that all make this a ring that looks and feels amazing. The piece carries the hallmark TBD, for Southwest lapidary and silversmith Tim Busch (his jewelry shop is Tim Busch Designs). Busch made his name early on as a master of inlaid jewelry, his inlay work featured in the April 1979 Collector’s Edition of Arizona Highways Magazine. From a gallery website that represents him: "My appreciation for the Southwest was instilled in me from an early age and grew through my Mother’s love of the Native American Arts after we moved to Tempe, Arizona when I was six years old. I would accompany her to Byron Hunter’s Trading Post where she worked and various other places such as the Pow Wow in Flagstaff which extended my love and appreciation for the Southwest heritage and art. Another shop I often visited was Trader Gene’s in Scottsdale which is where in fact I purchased my first Turquoise Cabochon’s. In the mid 1970’s I was attending college and working towards a degree in Commercial Art when a friend of mine showed me how to make a simple silver ring. I was instantly fascinated with the art and quickly moved on to make a bracelet and squash blossom that I later took into a local jewelry manufacturer whom I was promptly hired on with. I knew at that time jewelry was the career path that I wanted to pursue. In 1977 I began working for Aura, Inc. where I learned the art of lapidary. We created high end jewelry pieces for buyers such as Saks and Tiffany & Co." Busch's work in represented by True West, Santa Fe Goldworks, Sunwest Silver, Bischoff's At The Park and many more galleries.
The ring is approximately a Size 6 to 6.25; the band is thick enough to make it hard to get an exact reading on the mandrel, but when comparing the size to the rings on another tool, it is no larger than a 6.25. The ring face measures about 5/8" wide by just over 1-1/8" tall. Weighs 20g, which is nice weight for a ring. The back also has an "SS" mark for sterling silver. Small scratches on the silver, consistent with age.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market. But even if you have some funds with which to make a down payment, we can do layaway with you. Just convo to say you'd like to do a layaway, and we'll work with you on that route instead of a Hold or Reserve.
