1980s Mexican Sterling Silver Bead Choker Necklace 16.5", Vintage Taxco 925 Graduated 5-13mm 60g
This vintage Taxco necklace is short, likely made in the early 1980s when that more choker style was still in vogue coming out of the hippie era of the 1960s and 1970s. The beads are graduated in size and what I love is that they are ever-so-slightly barrel shaped, not super elongated but just enough to make them different. This necklace was made by a silver workshop in Taxco, Mexico, which we know by the hallmark TR-196, and that also helps us date the necklace to post-1979, as prior to that a different hallmark system was in place. Both Mexican and Native American silversmiths produced this style of necklace; those produced by Native Americans were called "Navajo Pearls." For anyone who likes a shorter and not terribly large silver bead necklace, this is a beauty. The beads are all benchmade, and we can see the very slight horizontal seam where the two cups were soldered together. The beads are graduated, larger at the bottom and smaller at the ends. A perfect necklace for layering, as this one can start the layers by being the shortest. The clasp is an interlocking slide and carries the workshop hallmark, as well as 925 for sterling silver. Patina is lovely.
The necklace measures 16-1/2" long when closed, and that extra half inch is likely from stretch over time--and do be aware that 16-1/2" is not long at all, so make sure it will fit before buying. Again, the beads are just slightly elongated so they are longer in one direction than the other, and they are graduated with the biggest at about 13mm long the the smallest at about 5mm. Total weight is 60g. A couple of the beads have slight scratches. Clasp in good working condition, with a nice click when it locks in.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market. But even if you have some funds with which to make a down payment, we can do layaway with you. Can you tell me SOLD prices?
