Rare Kenneth Jay Lane Moth Pendant Circa 1960s 1970s Gold and Silver Tone with Monet Necklace
This large pendant is going to catch the eye of anyone who loves insect jewelry and recognizes the large Luna-style moth. You might also recognize that this is a piece by fashion designer and icon Kenneth Jay Lane (1932-2017), who we learn from this website biography, was born in "Detroit, Michigan, the son of an automotive parts supplier. He graduated from Detroit Central High School, went on to study architecture at the University of Michigan, but soon transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated in 1954. And then he set out to conquer New York City. He worked in Vogue magazine’s art department, but didn’t last long. He designed jewelry for Hattie Carnegie, then moved on to designing shoes for Christian Dior, Bill Blass, Norman Norell and Arnold Scaasi. Kenneth designed bejeweled shoes for Scaasi for a particular show and suggested creating earrings and bracelets that matched the shoes. They were only plastic bangles covered with rhinestones, but they were a smash hit. Kenneth was soon selling his jewelry to major department stores and gained a following that included Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. He launched his own business in 1963 as 'K.J.L.' which he changed to 'KJL' in the mid-1970s." From the hallmark we know this was one of the pieces sold exclusively by Saks Fifth Avenue circa late 1960s to mid 1970s. This is not real silver nor real gold, and that was what Lane took advantage of, even calling his autobiography "Kenneth Jay Lane: Faking It." The silver tone metal has a bright sheen, and so we have paired that with a non-sterling silver-tone Monet chain from the 1980s, which although they are slightly off in era, you can see from Photo 2 how great they go together. The Monet chain is thrown in at no extra cost.
Pendant measures 3-3/4" wide by 3-3/4" tall and the chain is about 20" long. Total weight is 65 ga. The chain is silver-plated. The Lane pendant is made of completely non-precious metals. In great vintage condition.

Returns & Refunds
• We accept returns. Per our policies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping with insurance and tracking is at your expense. We process refunds once the item is returned in the same condition received.
• If your item arrives damaged, photograph it with packaging so we may make a claim.
• Returning an item is no fun; contact us before buying to ask questions or request additional photos. I'd rather talk you out of something vs your being disappointed with a purchase!

Do you do layaways?
We can work with you on a payment plan with immediate down payment up to two months for full payment.
Note that layaways past due over 30 days go into default. Once in default the transaction is cancelled and layaway payments are not returnable due to having removed items from the market and losing potential sales.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market.
