Vintage Tree of Life pottery candle holder Calavera Katrina or Parrot Mexican folk art Day of Dead

Sorry, this item has sold.

Here are two delightful folk art pottery candlesticks from the state of Puebla, Mexico, made in the 1990s yet kept in pristine condition as part of a collection of these candlesticks. These come from the town of Izucar de Matamoros, known for the many workshops and families who have been making these types of creations for decades if not centuries. They are usually unsigned, so attributing them to a particular family or studio is difficult to do. Regardless, even new they go for a pretty penny thanks to the details work involved in shaping the frame and creating the statues and items that adorn it, not to mention the often elaborate painting.

You may purchase one or both of these candlestick holders depending on availability. They were not made as a pair, but given their sizes they'd look great together, especially if you're not the type of person who likes everything matching.

• Katrina Calavera: Measures 8-1/4" tall by about 5" wide at her shoulders, and she sits on a 3" diameter base. Inside are the initials EOW Mexico and '95, the year which it was made. The painting on this piece is not only super festive, but also fairly intricate in places. Excellent condition.
• Green Birds: Measures 8-1/2" tall by about 4-1/2" wide across at the widest point, and sits on a 3" diameter base. It is unsigned underneath yet has Mex on the back. This piece also has lovely painting, especially the shadowing of the leaves. It has an object dangling in the center. Excellent condition.

Buy one or buy both and make every day festive.
