If you gravitate toward the hand icon in jewelry, you'll want to take a look at this Mexican pendant, cut out in the shape of a hand, not unlike a tin milagro yet made of sterling silver, thus, more substantial. The stampwork is done by hand and somewhat rustic, as is the hand itself. It dangles from two doves--symbol of peace and love--which in turn dangles from a hand that reaches up to the bale, as if holding onto a balloon as the pendant sails through the air. There are other Mexican icons--more birds, flowers, the Sacred Heart, and a repousse heart in the center of the big hand. The hand is a powerful symbol in Mexico. There is the Hamsa Hand, which came to Mexico via Spain and Morocco, believed to ward off evil. Milagros ("miracles" in English) are religious folk charms used for healing or as votive offerings (and as such are sometimes called ex votos) in Mexico and the Southwest. The hand is the symbol of Hand of God, the meaning of which is of God's hand in one's life. Today we might hear that expressed as "Let Go and Let God." A hand milagro pendant like this is beautiful in its own right as a piece of art, yet it could also symbolize one's faith, one's desire to let go, to turn one's worries over to a higher power. The round coral bead necklace was original to the pendant, which we know from the similar use of thinner silver sheet cut into strips for the clasp and the pendant's bale, both of which are marked 925 in an applied rectangle. The beads appear to be threaded on reddish pink silk or cotton, and the necklace has gotten a bit janky from having been stored in a wad. I recommend storing beaded necklaces and chains so they are either hanging or laid flat. Storing this one hanging with the pendant attached may pull the beads straighter over time, but even with the slightly bendiness now, it's hard to tell once you're wearing the necklace since the pendant does add that pull.
The hand pendant measures 7/8" wide by 1-7/8" tall to the top of the hand and almost 4" tall to the top of the bail. Pendant only weighs 11g. The beaded necklace measures about 28" and weighs 15g.

We do NOT do reserves or holds. Like any business, we use sales proceeds to keep the shop running. We truly can't afford to take items off the market.
